Abstract

Despite technological advances in vaccination records, the diversity of Immunization Information
Systems poses technical and operational challenges, particularly regarding technological infrastructure and
usability. This study, based on the ‘Guidelines for Evaluating Public Health Surveillance Systems’ from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, aimed to evaluate the Immunization Surveillance System in
Brazil in 2024, with an emphasis on the attribute of simplicity, which encompasses the structure and ease
of use of information systems. The following criteria were analyzed: data flow, organizations involved, data
transfer and dissemination, integration with other systems, data validation process, and training offered,
classified as either simple or complex. The Immunization Surveillance System was classified as complex, with

the exception of the data validation process. The diversity of information systems used by different profes-
sionals and institutions, both public and private, compromises the continuous flow of data and requires a

high degree of interoperability. Training activities are insufficient and not very effective, and the complexity
of the Immunization Surveillance System demands technological and operational advances to improve the
quality of information.
