Improving efficiency in healthcare: An integrative review on governance, evaluation, auditing, and corruption control

Abstract

The analysis of healthcare efficiency highlights the interdependence between governability, governance, and service quality, demonstrating how corruption affects the effectiveness of healthcare policies. This article aims to identify governance, evaluation, auditing, and corruption control mechanisms to improve healthcare efficiency. The integrative review was conducted in the databases of PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), and Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), using related descriptors. The results were organized into two categories: the role of governability and governance in the evaluation and auditing of healthcare policies, and the challenges of overcoming corruption in healthcare systems. The research reveals the need for further studies on the effectiveness of healthcare policies and the adaptation of international models of governance, governability, and control in healthcare institutions.
